| | Re: Windows activating Hi Andreas, Did you reinstall or change hardware? Or was this the initial activation? Basically, the message means that the Product Key has already been used once for activation. In most cases, activation can still be accomplished by using the phone option. If it cannot be activated, you should return to the vendor you got it from and request a key that has not been previously activated. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org My thoughts http://rick-mvp.blogspot.com "Andreas" <Andreas@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news C425072-32BB-4FA6-948E-6E51E655B6B6@microsoft.com...>I recently bought windows Vista Home premium from a shop nearby, but some > days after installing and activating windows it says that my product key > is > already in use. | | Re: Windows activating Thank you, John, for the link. This worked perfectly! Background: After getting the Windows Activation prompt for several days only to be told that my Product Key was already in use, my first call was to Microsoft via the Windows Activation Wizzard phone numbers only to be referred to HP because my Vista Updated CD was OEM. I next talked with support at HP...in India..their solution was to use the HP Recovery Option which would have reverted my operating system back to Windows XP and where I was 4 months ago! I was not at all happy with that advice. I got as far as making backups of all my documents, pictures, etc. but decided to give Windows Forum a try. I have found solutions here before... My Windows Vista is now activated...again... When I have computer issues next time I will search Windows Forums first before going to the so-called experts! | | Re: Windows activating On Tue, 24 Jul 2007 20:54:04 +0100, "John Barnett MVP" >:-) That wasn't a rhetorical question, BTW... we have lots of pulse-dial telephones here, in fact it was only a few years ago that our phone exchanges were updated to handle tone dialing. My phone pre-dates that, so is pulse dial only. I picked up a knackered fax machine with no power supply to use as a tone dialing phone when I have to, but it takes so much space that I usually leave it in the back room. So a voice-menu with no fall-through is not good news! >--------------- ----- ---- --- -- - - - Dreams are stack dumps of the soul >--------------- ----- ---- --- -- - - - |
