| | Reinstalling Vista I need to re-install my Vista. My question is: I only have a wireless mouse and keyboard. can I still do a clean re-install and these still work whilst installing? I presume not as the drivers will not be loaded. Do I need to borrow or buy a wired mouse and keyboard. Thank you |

| | Re: Reinstalling Vista You wireless keyboard and mouse should be picked up at the BIOS level by the mobo before the operating system starts...or the DVD starts and the Vista Installation starts. If you wish to test start your machine and hit the keyboard key that gives you access to the BIOS...usually delete. did it work?? peter "ggustar" <ggustar@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:113D36B5-CD3C-4EB4-AF11-CC41C7663F7D@microsoft.com... >I need to re-install my Vista. > My question is: I only have a wireless mouse and keyboard. can I still do > a > clean re-install and these still work whilst installing? | | Re: Reinstalling Vista My Microsoft wireless keyboard & mouse device can be plugged into the computers mouse and keyboard ports. No drivers are required for the keyboard, and the standard DOS driver allows access to the mouse. In other words, it looks just like a standard keyboard & mouse to DOS & Windows & any other software. -Paul Randall "peter" <peter@nowhere.net> wrote in message news:Trbri.17336$rX4.13573@pd7urf2no... > You wireless keyboard and mouse should be picked up at the BIOS level by > the mobo before the operating system starts...or the DVD starts and the > Vista Installation starts. > If you wish to test start your machine and hit the keyboard key that gives > you access to the BIOS...usually delete. > did it work?? > peter > "ggustar" <ggustar@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:113D36B5-CD3C-4EB4-AF11-CC41C7663F7D@microsoft.com... >>I need to re-install my Vista. >> My question is: I only have a wireless mouse and keyboard. can I still do >> a >> clean re-install and these still work whilst installing? | | Re: Reinstalling Vista The BIOS is in charge of keyboard input until Windows, or the Windows Install DVD, is loaded. I can get to BIOS Setup, with my wireless keyboard, at least. I guess I was mostly thinking about the mouse, beyond BIOS emulation. "Press any key to boot from the DVD" is a message from the Windows DVD, though, not the BIOS (the BIOS, normally, doesn't give messages of this sort). The BIOS, at this point, is out of the equation, because it has booted the DVD. You're actually already under Windows' purview, so to speak, and whatever driver functionality it offers at this point. The "Press any key..." is actually Windows offering you the option to Install from the beginning (or access Repair My Computer), or opt out. If you don't Press any key, then the F8 stuff is engaged... If you are in the midst of an install, then normally the F8 stuff flashes by pretty quickly, or is is not seen at all, much like normal booting, unless of course, you hit F8. If Windows is installed, you'll be sent on to normal Windows. (Or the Pick Your OS screen, if you have a multi-boot situation). > So how does he access his install CD if he needs to "push any key to boot > from CD'' and the drivers dont load till the Vista DVD loads??? In short, while the message may be misleading, the DVD has been booted. | | Re: Reinstalling Vista I should add that whichever way you are re-installing, be it Full or Upgrade, starting the Install from within Windows (with Restart), or directly from Boot, that unless you imagine yourself needing to access the BIOS (which capabilities you may well have) the drivers needed for your keyboard and mouse will be engaged rather shortly, thereby allowing you to make your choices for the Install. You'll notice a bit of loading-DVD-activity before the "Press any key..." prompt appears. That activity is Windows getting itself set up, in part, to accommodate your keyboard and mouse, and, by extension, your choices. | | Re: Reinstalling Vista Thank you, Yes when I hit delete they both work ok. The reason I need to re-install vista, I think it has got corrupted, I have a great problem starting if I switch the computer off. It will only start after I boot from CD then I go into repair it will then finally load after about an hour. Once loaded it works perfectly. I have tried putting into sleep mode, this works ok for a short while but if I leave it for an hour or so seems to shut down "peter" wrote: > You wireless keyboard and mouse should be picked up at the BIOS level by the > mobo before the operating system starts...or the DVD starts and the Vista > Installation starts. > > My question is: I only have a wireless mouse and keyboard. can I still do > > a > > clean re-install and these still work whilst installing?
