| | Dual boot - Single copy I am getting a new PC for general use and also for music production. I will be running Home Premium 32bit. I would like to keep general and music seperate so i was going to dual boot to versions of vista. Is it legal to do this under one license or do i need to buy two copies of vista? |

| | Re: Dual boot - Single copy You'll need to purchase another "full version" of Windows Vista if you wish to install a second instance as a dual-boot. The license is strictly for one installation on one computer. I would recommend that you install a second hard drive (as a slave) and install the new Vista operating system on it. Vista will automatically create the dual-boot loader. -- Carey Frisch Microsoft MVP Windows - Shell/User ---------------------------------------------------------------------------Â*----- "jan" wrote: I am getting a new PC for general use and also for music production. | | RE: Dual boot - Single copy Additional: If this is not legal, to save buying 2 copies, is it possible to set up 2 users on the same copy but keep one user clean. By clean i mean i will not have all the applications used for general use on the clean copy and possibly have it optimised for music by turning off some background services. My reasoning is that when you buy a new PC its really fast start installing stuff and it starts to slow down. I want to keep it fast on the clean copy! |

| | Re: Dual boot - Single copy You can create a new user but whatever is installed for them installed for all - it still (normally) goes in Program Files and adds to the registry for the PC. jan wrote: > Additional: > > If this is not legal, to save buying 2 copies, is it possible to set up 2 > users on the same copy but keep one user clean. > > By clean i mean i will not have all the applications used for general use on > the clean copy and possibly have it optimised for music by turning off some > background services. > > My reasoning is that when you buy a new PC its really fast start installing > stuff and it starts to slow down.
