XP software CD Rom setup to run on Vista?

Apologies if this has been asked/answered before. I wanted to buy a
language training CD-Rom (www.therosettastone.co.uk) which is designed
to be run on XP. I emailed them and asked if it would work with Vista
Home Edition. I was given the following instructions below. I just
want to check - is this going to bugger my computer if I then try and
run other Vista CD-Roms from my drive? Will it think that they are
running in XP as well, or will it just revert to normal after I stop
running this program? Sorry if this is a really really basic question,
but I'm not very across how these things work....

Current versions of Rosetta Stone will run in Vista if you follow
these steps during installation:

1. Insert the Application CD and Quit out of the Autoplay screen.

2. Look via "My Computer" for the CD-ROM drive and right click on it.

3. Choose Explore.

4. Right-click on setup.exe and choose Copy.

5. On your desktop, right-click and choose Paste.

6. Once setup.exe has been successfully copied to the desktop, right-
click on it and choose Properties.

7. Click on the Compatibility tab and check the box to "Run this
program in compatibility mode for." Choose Windows XP.

8. Click Apply to save the change then OK.

9. Double-click on setup.exe to start the installation process.

Once the installation is complete, insert the language disk and begin
your study.

Re: XP software CD Rom setup to run on Vista?

Hi,

They are taking advantage of the built in compatibility mode until they
(hopefully) update their program to be Vista compliant. No, it will not
bugger the system to do this, nor will it cause problems for subsequent
disks run on the system.
