| | Failed Vista install. help me repair my boot! I tried to install Vista but the install failed. Now when my PC boots I have to jump through some hoops to get it working. Help! When booting it presents me the following options: * An earlier version of Windows * Windows Setup Rollback It automatically chooses the second option which fails, but gives me a chance to go back to the previous menu and choose to load an earlier version of Windows (which works fine) Here is a video of the boot process: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nqBr_XqdKQY I've given up on installing Vista for now. But would love to remove these option screens so that I can boot normally again. -- - Chris |

| | RE: Failed Vista install. help me repair my boot! Were you trying to install as a dual-boot? Or an upgrade? If not, set bios to boot from CD/DVD with Vista DVD in the Drive, reboot, DELETE the existing partition, which will be XP, format the hard drive, and install vista on its own. | | RE: Failed Vista install. help me repair my boot! I was installing it onto my 2nd HDD, which is why I think it failed. I wanted to dual-boot to test it out. I guess it didn't like my drive as during the install it popped up with a message that it was unable to locate the partition and that it could not install. The drive is an IDE drive with a converter to connect it to a SATA connection. It doesn't appear to have installed any files on the drive. All I want to do now is get rid of this message/option window ![]() -- - Chris "Mick Murphy" wrote: Quote: > Were you trying to install as a dual-boot? | | Re: Failed Vista install. help me repair my boot! Hi, You need to fix teh mbr on the active partition to point back to the older bootloader. Assuming this is XP, you should boot the XP disk and load the Recovery Console by hitting 'r' when first prompted. Logon to the existing installation with an admin user account and run fixmbr, then fixboot from the prompt. Exit the console, then remove the XP disk and restart the machine. This should return you to the former bootloader. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org My thoughts http://rick-mvp.blogspot.com "ChrisGunton" <ChrisGunton@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:8CD788A1-E512-4645-8237-E67C6F87FC82@xxxxxx Quote: >I tried to install Vista but the install failed.
