Vista - Sounds....

I think I'm missing some of the sounds that came with Vista. I don't hear the
pop-up or the "Allow" sound when they start. I looked through the sound files
and it looks like I'm missing some not sure if it was like that when I got my
laptop or they dissapeared later. Anyway on restoring them back?

Hi GIZMO,

You can look in the "C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft-windows-shell sounds_31bf3856ad364e35_6.0.6000.16386_none_70fa55ba70fbf789" folder if you have a 64 bit Vista. I would imagine that it would be a "amd32" for a 32 bit Vista. You can do a non-indexed search including system files on one of the .wav files (EX: ding.wav) to find the location.

Other than that, you could create another user account temporarily, and copy them from that accounts "C:\Windows\Media" location. Delete the user account when done.
