Vista Home Premium Installation Clean-up

I had to do the install dozens of times due to a Sony Windows XP Pro MCE
problem. Finally I got an operational install of Vista Home Premium. But
looking over the contents of the HD I see there are three folders that I
wonder if they can be removed?
$INPLACE.~TR (two folders in it Data and Machine)
$WINDOWS.~Q (one main folder DATA and three sub-folders Documents ans
Settings, Program Files, and WINDOWS)
Something called 7c681d2937b8242c1eb05cf45a (this one contains one file in
it with a name of %temp%dd_msxml_ret...)
So, can I delete these three folders?

RE: Vista Home Premium Installation Clean-up

Hi jdcadnce,

You should be able to delete these folders without any problems. However,
bearing in mind that you had great difficulty in installing Vista (I am
assuming that you used the upgrade version), you would be better off carrying
out a clean install. I am actually quite surprised to note that you actually
managed to install Vista Home Premium over an XP Pro installation as it is
not regarded as a suitable upgrade path for XP Pro. For instructions, please
see my post 'Clean Install Windows Vista Using Upgrade Media', also in this
newsgroup. A clean install is always better since it eliminates the problem
of conflicting drivers which can occur with upgraded versions.

Hi Jdcadnce,

In addition to Dwarf's suggestion, this tutorial will show you how to do a clean install with a Upgrade version of Vista. It really is the best way to avoid some unknown problem later from a XP left over.
