| | Step 2 of the installation process failed with the error 0x8007002 I am installing the 32bit edition of Windows Vista Family Premium Edition on a NTFS primary partition formatted by the Vista installation process. During the second step of the installation (e.g. when files are being copied to the hard drive), I am getting the error 0x80070020 when that process is closed to 90% completed. All of a sudden, the installation process ends with a blue screen advising me that Windows terminated to protect itself. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

| | RE: Step 2 of the installation process failed with the error 0x8007002 That hex code is a "file in use" error. Are you upgrading or is this a clean installation? If its an upgrade, disable services like antivirus and rerun the installation. If its a clean installation, remove any unneeded peripherals and make sure you have the latest BIOS and mass storage controller driver (if needed) prior to installation. Joseph W. | | RE: Step 2 of the installation process failed with the error 0x800 Thanks Joseph for your feedback. It was a clean installation. I had removed any unneeded peripherals and I could not avoid the problem. The microsoft support team told me to remove the 2 Gb of memory I purchased a few weeks before. I have been able to install Vista since then and the memory analysis tool that comes with Vista was able to diagnostic that my additional 2 Gb of memory was not compatible with the 1 Gb of memory I had on initially. I has replaced the 2 Gb of memory with another brand and it has been working since that time.
