| | Windows Mail and antivirus programs I've seen a number of posts saying that there is an incompatibility between Vista and some antivirus programs, particularly McAfee and Norton. I use Vet (now CA) and AVG [on 2 different computers] -- are there any known issues with these two programs and Vista? I always had email scanning turned off with Outlook Express because I've noted the oft-repeated warnings about possible corruption of the OE message store caused by email scanning. Is this still an issue with Windows Mail or is it OK to turn email scanning on? Lindsay Graham Canberra, Australia |

Lindsay Graham Canberra, Australia If you do a custom install with AVG and do not install the email scanning option, then it will work fine with Vista. Avast is another good free antivirus program. Douglas Adams Windows Mail has a very sensitive message store. These scanning options in antivirus programs can corrupt Windows Mail entire message folder, or the entire message store, when it attempts to remove a message containing a potential virus. | Windows Vista | Re: Windows Mail and antivirus programs It seems a lot of people (including me) have had issues with windows mail... and personally i quite like having mail scanning turned on. At the moment i'm using the alpha version of thunderbird, with no issues as yet... 64bitdrivers.com:: Mozilla Thunderbird for x64 you can get the AVG i'm using here: 64bitdrivers.com:: AVG AntiVirus Free Edition 7.5 for Vista x64 just so you can test the compatibillity. thunderbird seems ok at the moment, but a few known issues (if you're worried, wait a while for them to bring out the release version). |
