Can anyone tell me why I keep getting this error message...

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'pop.suddenlink.net',
Server: 'pop.suddenlink.net', Protocol: POP3, Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes,
Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Re: windows mail error

I don't think Suddenlink supports port 995 or SSL.
Change port 995 to 110 (Servers tab), and unselect the SSL option
on the Advanced tab.

Re: windows mail error

I made the corrections you suggested and now I'm getting this...

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Account: 'pop.suddenlink.net', Server: 'pop.suddenlink.net',
Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10053, Error
Number: 0x800CCC0F

Re: windows mail error

Something is interfering with the connection to the mail server.
Which antivirus are you running?
Windows Mail is not compatible with most McAfee
and Norton security programs. Those will need to be
uninstalled, not just disabled.

After uninstalling your non-compatible antivirus, download
and install a more compatible antivirus like the free Avast:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

Even compatible antivirus programs will need to have their
email scanning option turned off. For more on this topic see
http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

If after uninstalling your antivirus, the problem with Windows
Mail persists, delete that corrupted mail account, restart
Windows Mail, then recreate that account.

Re: windows mail error

Is that your full error message? If not, showing your full error message
will get you help faster. Also, what email program does it come from?

Re: windows mail error

Partial error messages like the one shown below is one reason
why I dumped Outlook long ago in favor of the more complete
error messages one gets from Outlook Express.
Historical reasons aside, this newsgroup deals mainly with the
Windows Mail program which replaced Outlook Express in Vista.
Outlook problems are better dealt with in the Outlook newsgroups:
microsoft.public.outlook.general
