Recovering mail after system recovery

I had to contact Gateway today regarding a problem with my notebook. The tech
had me reinstall Vista but did not tell me I would lose everything. Luckily
the way it installed there were old and new files and my husband was able to
recover all my documents and pictures. The problem is now we can't figure
out how to recover my old mail. He was able to get my contacts and move them
but we have no idea how to get the mail. I have some important things in
there that I need to save.
Can anyone help me?

I assume you were using Windows Mail for your email program?

Did he find the directory for you old user profile?

Re: Recovering mail after system recovery

Yes I was using Windows Mail and I'm still using it. I'm assuming what he
found was a directory it listed everything under my username and we were able
to go in there and get my documents, pictures and my contacts. So that would
be the directory correct? Sorry I'm not very good with this type of stuff on
a computer.

Windows Explorer will have to be set to show hidden files and folders. Then
look in
C:\Users\<Old Profile Name>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail

In WinMail do a File | Import from there.

Re: Recovering mail after system recovery

In that directory look under
\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail\Local Folders.
Each message is stored individually under a filename ending in .eml.
