user name & password screen keeps popping up???

I have set up my account and I have been trying to send something from the internet to friends. It pops up straight into windows mail and asks if I want my default email to send this (which is yahoo). I say yes and it tells me to enter my user name and password. I do this and that same screen just keeps popping up. I know I'm entering the right user name and password so I don't understand??? Any suggestions?????? Thanks so much.

If you want to use Yahoo under Windows Mail, you need a premium
Yahoo account to make it work:

http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mai...op/pop-35.html

Since they haven't written instructions for Windows Mail yet, use their
instructions for Outlook Express but under Windows Mail instead.

Hi DotyJennifer,

Double check your email account settings in Windows Mail to see if they are correct. See this link from Gmail. Outlook Express and Windows Mail use the same settings.

Outlook Express

Make sure that you have POP enabled for Gmail. This link from Gmail will show you how.

How do I enable POP?

Re: user name & password screen keeps popping up???

ok i changed so i could enable pop in gmail. now i try to send and this is the message i get:

The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the "I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

The rejected e-mail address was *** EMAIL ADDRESS REMOVED ***. Subject 'I got elfed', Account: 'mail.google.com', Server: 'smtp.gmail.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '530 5.7.0 Must issue a STARTTLS command first h15sm1386857wxd', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 530, Error Number: 0x800CCC78

I removed your email address from both posts. You do not want to post it. You will get slammed by spam bot emails.

It doesn't look like your email account settings are correct in Windows Mail. Double check them with the setup page from Gmail.

Outlook Express

What antivirus program are you using? See the "FIRST' section in this tutorial for more information on this to see of this may apply.

Re: user name & password screen keeps popping up???

You will need to uninstall Norton completely. It does not work well with Windows Mail or Vista. I would use something like the free Avast instead. See the "FIRST" section here for more on this. Norton can cause problems like this easily.

Windows Mail problems

The error code 0x800CCC78 = SMTP_REJECTED_SENDER = Unknown sender. This is caused by having the incorrect e-mail address in the Reply-To field.

You might double check to make sure that it is correct.

If gmail.com is not your internet provider, connections to their port 25
are often blocked to cause trouble for spammers. Do their instructions
say you can use any other port instead?

You may need to uninstall the Norton program. Many common
antivirus programs, such as most of those from Norton or
McAfee, or a recent one from Trend, tend to cause such
problems, although seldom immediately.

You may even need to delete the email account, restart
Windows Mail, and recreate it to get rid of all the account
corruption Norton causes.

avast! is a good replacement antivirus program, especially
if you do a custom install and tell it to leave out the part
that scans email.

Their web server seems to have problems now, though,
so you may have to wait a while before downloading it.
