Apply the following fix to see if this clears them?

"Messages may be stuck in the Outbox when you use Windows Mail on a computer
that is running Windows Vista"

It works for all folders, not just the Outbox.

Click on Deleted Items, then View, then Current View, then Show All
Messages.

Do you think that wasn't the first thing I tried?

Re: Windows Mail Deleted Items appears empty but isn't...

Thanks Mac, I tried that update already, which doesn't apply to my system
apparantly. Can you think of anything else I can try?

You didn't say so. Many people posting here need to be told.

Re: Windows Mail Deleted Items appears empty but isn't...

Just a thought -- could it perhaps be those mysterious "0-byte" files?

Try going to Tools>options>advanced>maintenance>reduce the 100 closings to
1>apply/OK.

Close WM and let it compact the message store (remove wasted space), do not
touch the PC until the process is completed.
Did that move the ghost messages?
Go back and restore the 100 setting.
------------

Or try this?
WMUtil

Re: Windows Mail Deleted Items appears empty but isn't...

Yeah, the WMUtil utility will tell him if he has any 0-byte files and it will
also easily remove them.
