The documents that fail to open, are they all .DOC types? -- Gary VanderMolen [MS-MVP WLM] "southerngrl" <southerngrl@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:2F2DCA73-6228-4B86-8AFD-D05FF3FE4BE9@xxxxxx Quote: > Me again. | | Re: Vista Still can't open documents I tried every format (.DOC, .wps, .doc.wps) and I kept getting the same message that the file couldn't be opened because I didn't have the file couldn't be converted or the file was in use in another program or the file was corrupted. The only time it would open was when I saved a document as text. "Gary VanderMolen" wrote: Quote: > What happens when you try to open the attachment? You can read about and download it from here. TextMaker Viewer - Free Document Viewer for .doc, .odt, .tmd, .rtf and more Shawn |

| | Re: Vista Still can't open documents Are you talking about attachments you have emailed to yourself or ones emailed to you from other people? I don't quite get your comment about trying every format. Are you changing the format by merely renaming the file extension? That won't work. The extension of a document (.DOC, .WPS, .XLS, etc.) should be created by the program that created the document. Also, in order to open a document received as an attached from others you must have the same program installed on your computer that was used by the creator of that document. There are exceptions to that general rule, but let's not go into that for now. -- Gary VanderMolen [MS-MVP WLM] "southerngrl" <southerngrl@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:20FF3659-AC52-451E-B17F-59513DB895E5@xxxxxx Quote: >I tried every format (.DOC, .wps, .doc.wps) and I kept getting the same > message that the file couldn't be opened because I didn't have the file > couldn't be converted or the file was in use in another program or the file > was corrupted.
