Vista Still can't open documents

Me again. I did an e-mail test and I was able to open my pictures, but again
with my documents, none of them would open. I tried the older format and all
the other ones too. I have no idea what to do. Please help! And thanks to

Re: Vista Still can't open documents

What happens when you try to open the attachment? Any error message?
The documents that fail to open, are they all .DOC types?

Re: Vista Still can't open documents

I tried every format (.DOC, .wps, .doc.wps) and I kept getting the same
message that the file couldn't be opened because I didn't have the file
couldn't be converted or the file was in use in another program or the file
was corrupted. The only time it would open was when I saved a document as
text.

Hi SouthernGirl,

If you do not have Microsoft Word (not Wordpad) installed, then this free program will allow you to view these file types and more. You can read about and download it from here.

TextMaker Viewer - Free Document Viewer for .doc, .odt, .tmd, .rtf and more

Re: Vista Still can't open documents

Are you talking about attachments you have emailed to yourself
or ones emailed to you from other people?
I don't quite get your comment about trying every format. Are you
changing the format by merely renaming the file extension? That
won't work.
The extension of a document (.DOC, .WPS, .XLS, etc.) should be
created by the program that created the document. Also, in order
to open a document received as an attached from others you must
have the same program installed on your computer that was used
by the creator of that document. There are exceptions to that general
rule, but let's not go into that for now.

Re: Vista Still can't open documents

I've run out of ideas as to what to suggest. Perhaps someone
else has more insight in this issue.

Re: Vista Still can't open documents

If you save the attacments to the hard drive do they open when you double
click?
Are you using Microsoft Word or Word Perfect (or something else)?
