Tools/Options/Advanced/Maintenance - Delete news messages 31 days after
being downloaded ticked.

The other day I had to manually delete some 20,000 messages from 8
subscribed NGs, some going back to September. This function seems to be
erratic in operation.

Is there any other setting needing tweaking.

Also will Clean Up Now... tab remove ALL messages, or just the >31 days
ones.

This is the second time of asking and cross posted as my OP disappeared
without trace before anyone replied. (huh)

Hi,

It's always been that way with newsgroup message rules with Winmail and its
predecessor Outlook Express. They have to be manually applied periodically.
I agree that it should be automatic, but it isn't.

Hi, Delboy.

Note that the setting is for 31 days after BEING DOWNLOADED. So a
2-year-old post that you downloaded just last week still has about 3 weeks
to go before WM deletes it from your hard drive. Not 31 days from when the
message was posted.

I have my WLM set to 35 days. In this vista.general NG, for example, I see
18,017 messages reported at this moment. The oldest one is dated 10/26/07,
but that started a thread with a reply on 11/11/07. The earliest OP is
dated 11/6/07 - 35 days ago.

Hi RCW,

Tks for the comment. I did realise the point you made. I am on line mostly
daily with only an occasional missed day so as far as I understand I should
have no postings much older than 31 days. When this function works, it seems
to work properly; I see threads with OPs gone and Re: subjects so posts have
been deleted. It's just a little temperamental it seems.
