Vista Email lock-up & Unable to display certain messages

At random times, after a few minutes inactivity, I will move to a
different mail folder (e.g.- Sent) and I get the error message that
they are unable to display the files (just as if the folder were
empty, although it is not); to clear this problem, I have to shut down
the computer (*not* just close Windows Mail), then re-start.

I also now have an error message on one mail item in my Inbox which
says "Message could not be displayed. Windows Mail encountered an
unexpected problem while displaying this message. Check your computer
for low memory or low disk space and try again." I *know* that memory
or disk space is not low! And I cannot move or delete this mail!

Help! Suggestions?

Jim

To cure the undeletable message, and maybe the other problem too,
download and install this fix, with Windows Mail not running:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090

Although it's labelled as for mail stuck in the Outbox, it also works in
other folders. If you don't know whether to use the 32-bit version or
the 64-bit version, try the 32-bit version first. Certain common
antivirus programs, such as most of those from Norton or McAfee,
or a recent one from Trend, tend to cause such problems, although
seldom immediately, so if you have such a program, remember
where to find the fix - you are likely to need it again.

If this does not fix the other problem too, which antivirus programs
do you have?

Re: Vista Email lock-up & Unable to display certain messages

Vista e-Mail operates fine usually upon boot-up, but daily after a few
minutes of inactivity, at random times, the program locks up and is unable to
display new messages (there is always an alert message after a prompt [for
example, receiving 1 of 5 new messages] saying the POP3 server has not
responded in 30 seconds, would you like to wait).

We've also encounted the problem you troubleshoot described below over the
past months a couple times (which we repaired).

Our systems uses Panda Internet Security (spysweeper software has been
removed due to conflicts). We connect to DSL using AT&T, and have e-mail
through a local ISP provider.

Please help!
David

Re: Vista Email lock-up & Unable to display certain messages

I haven't heard of Panda Internet Security causing problems, but you
would have to uninstall it to be sure.

You might check your setup to use AT&T:

You might also check the setup for your local ISP, and ask them if
they are having problems with their email servers.
