| Vista home premium 32bit | cant send email or rr account hello, I can receive email but cannot send. here is the error message... The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'test', Account: 'pop-server.cfl.rr.com', Server: 'smtp-server.cfl.rr.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E I have been reading this forum but can't find a solution. I have clicked and unclicked 'my server requires authentication', changed outgoing port# from 25 to 465, and many many other things. server settings are: pop-server.cfl.rr.com, smtp-server.cfl.rr.com Using Windows Live one-care thanks in advance |

| | Re: cant send email or rr account The server names appear to be correct. Incoming mail server - "Log on using clear text authentication" should be checked Outgoing mail server - "My server requires authentication" should be unchecked Advanced tab - The SMTP port should be 25 Are you connected to the RR network when you try to send? -- http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview "Hagermeister" <Hagermeister.323zt8@xxxxxx-mx.forums.net> wrote in message news:Hagermeister.323zt8@xxxxxx-mx.forums.net... | | Re: cant send email or rr account Are you sending while away from home when you get that error? 'Port 25 block' issues are common for travelers, see http://www.postcastserver.com/help/P..._Blocking.aspx Let me know if that is the issue, and if so, we can provide you with some workarounds. -- Gary VanderMolen [MS-MVP WLM] "Hagermeister" <Hagermeister.323zt8@xxxxxx-mx.forums.net> wrote in message news:Hagermeister.323zt8@xxxxxx-mx.forums.net... | Vista home premium 32bit | Re: cant send email or rr account thank you all so much for your help...I've actually figured it out. My new pc came with a wireless LAN, and it was using that connection to try and send the emails, connect to the internet, ect... (I didnt do anything to set it up, it appears to have set itself up automatically!!)...anywho, I disabled the wireless connection, restarted my computer which made it look for my standard broadband connector, and success! I can now send emails without a problem! Thanks again for all your help and I hope this will provide some usefull information for anyone else having the same problem. |

| | Re: cant send email or rr account Looks like you inadvertently tapped into a neighbor's wireless LAN. The symptoms pointed that way, which is why I asked if you were sending while traveling away from home. -- Gary VanderMolen [MS-MVP WLM] "Hagermeister" <Hagermeister.3246r0@xxxxxx-mx.forums.net> wrote in message news:Hagermeister.3246r0@xxxxxx-mx.forums.net... | | Re: cant send email or rr account Yes! I'm visiting my parents, can receive but not send emails and it mentions something about port 25. Could you tell me what the workarounds are? | | Re: cant send email or rr account One of the common workarounds is to use webmail if your email provider supports it. That doesn't use port 25 or Windows Mail. Otherwise, the workarounds depend on whether your email provider's email servers listen to any port other than port 25 for outgoing mail, and if they do, your being able to find the details of how to use this. | | Re: cant send email or rr account The four workarounds are as follows: 1. Use webmail for sending: http://www.timewarnercable.com/roche...t/webmail.html 2. Use a port other than '25' for SMTP, if your mail provider has a provision for that. Unfortunately, I don't think RoadRunner does. 3. Use the SMTP server associated with the current Internet connection. 4. Get a free Gmail account, configure it for POP access, and use it for your sending chores. Gmail uses port 465 for SMTP, which is not blocked. For a short stay, #1 is the easiest solution. If you need more elaboration on the other choices, let me know. -- Gary VanderMolen [MS-MVP WLM] "DiscoStu" <DiscoStu@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:09BEB6E6-3372-454C-BE94-2CD2D5DFB7EE@xxxxxx Quote: > Yes!
