| | Re: window mail Which 2 other emails do you use? There are two types (for the purposes of this discussion) of email in the world: local client and web-based. Outlook Express, Windows Mail, and Outlook are local clients (they run on your computer); Hotmail and Yahoo Mail are web-based. You will not lose anything in your Web-based accounts, because they don't reside on your computer, they reside on a server somewhere else. You probably will not lose any local data if you set up Windows Mail because even if you uninstalled a local email client, the data store folder would stay in place. On my new Vista machine, Windows Mail did not pop up as it did on yours. I set it up and then imported my data from my Windows XP machine's Outlook ..pst file. I did not lose anything; I could still run my old Outlook or Outlook Express, with my same old data in place. Then I found a better way, thanks to the wizards on this newsgroup: If you are wanting to run your Web-based accounts on a local client, the best way is to download and install Windows Live Mail. It is much better than Windows Mail; you can run as many accounts as you want. Bottom line is you must be careful and know what you are doing when you try to import/export email data; it's hard to cover all the little problems and techniques in a brief message. If you know anyone nearby who is good on computers that can assist I would recommend that method. I hope this helps you. | | Re: window mail thanks, hotmail and yahoo are who I use. if I set up window mail, do I have to combine them. Can I just leave them as they are? will the window mail be the default? right now when I click internet the yahoo home page comes up therefore that's my main email. I want to leave this as such. and login into hotmail/window live when i want to read them. I do not want all email coming to one account. Is this possible? only reason I was setting it up is to sent documents or link from internet through email contacts. "William Peterson" wrote: Quote: > Which 2 other emails do you use? | | Re: window mail Hotmail won't work with Windows Mail. You may want to download and install Windows Live Mail, which will: http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview WLM will use a separate set of folders for each account. It makes itself the default email program. Yahoo in the US costs extra to work with either of them: http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mai...op/pop-35.html http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mai...op/pop-08.html "jackie" <jackie@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:C5497791-EB5D-4447-8D1F-907E0D827FEE@xxxxxx Quote: > > thanks, > > hotmail and yahoo are who I use. > > if I set up window mail, do I have to combine them.
