    Not d/loading intial NG list

On a new notebook with Vista Business I'm having problems downloading
    the intial newsgroup list.

Windows Mail functions... but with newsgroups I start the "Reset List"
and on the following "Downloading Newsgroups from myserver" window I
    see

    "Connected"
    "Authorizing"
"Downloading Newsgroups xxxx" (the xxxx number varies from 800 to
    14,000)
    "Connected"

    Then an error window
    "An unknown error has occurred"

    The details are
    Configuration:
    Account:news.myservername
    Server:news.myservername
    Protocol:NNTP
    Port:119
    Secure(SSL):0
    Code:800c0148

    Help please!

    TIA

    Ron

Are you sure you's entered the server name right? Servers in the US
tend to have names ending with .com or .net, servers in other countries
tend to have names ending with either one or those or a period then
two letters. Ask your newsgroup provider (who is probably also
your internet provider) for help in setting up to use their newsgroup
    servers.

Re: Not d/loading intial NG list

    Thank you for the suggestion.

The problem was resolved by d/loading the list about 30 times.

I noticed that each time I used the "Reset List" the number of
newsgroups downloaded increased by about 1,500. So after many attempts
I got the full number 46,000+ plus the newsgroup descriptions.

I think my ISP had used the brakes but they will not admit it.
