Vista - Mail signatures

Why will Mail allow you to designate a unique signature for different
accounts but the the default signature is always selected? Seems like the
function doesn't work like it was designed.

the multiple sigs seems to work only for news groups.

for email it selects the one you have designated for email.
since it does not yet know which account you are trying to send through to select the correct one.
it selects the sig from the account you have selected as DEFAULT in the account settings.

So, it is a non-working function. Seems like an oversight to put the options in for multiple MAIL accounts and then to be able to assign a unique signature to each account, and then just use the default anyway. Seems like MS needs to either take the option out or fix it. When I change accounts during message creation, the mail program should be made aware of which account is being used and then pick the signature that the user already designated for that account rather than take the easy way out and just plug in the default.

Oh well, what should I expect for free.

there are so many options on where the message is and where to put the signature it would be unreasonable to just stick the sig anywhere it thought reasonable.,

some people top post, some bottom post, some spread their messages all over the previous posts.

if you just click on CREATE MAIL, it selects the account that you have designated as default. same with sigs.

Fairly simple coding could allow Mail to simply insert the correct signature at the bottom of a new email when the send button is used, or better yet, it could work when the 'from' is selected (pick a different signature depending on how it was initially set up). As to where in the message, it seems the old OE did it quite fine when switching identities and then creating a message by placing it at the bottom of a new message. The option does exist to not include the signature on replies and forwards, but it sure would be nice to get the right one automatically when doing a new message. Still seems odd that the option is there to tie unique signatures to identities, and then not use it at all. Why bother? Think MS originally intended to include the function and then left it out or it just doesn't work.

The option for signatures tied to a specific account is there,
but it is only used when replying or forwarding.
So it is not correct to say it is never used.

Yet, the option states 'add signatures to all outgoing messages' and an
option is presented to NOT include it on replies and forwards. Seems like a
paradox to me. These same options were also presented in older versions of
OE and they didn't work there either. I still think it is something MS may
have intended to implement, but either didn't, for whatever reason, or it
never worked.
Whatever, it is what it is and I'm am burying this dead horse.

You are exactly right...it is just plain dumb and misleading.

The way it should work is when creating a new email, when using the drop
down (ie. picking the account that you will send an email from) it
automatically inserts the signature that you have nominated.

Isnt that obvious to everyone else?????

text around, made inline comments, etc., and it would be hard to
determine where the wrong sig is so that the new sig can replace it.
