Vista - Parental controls

Parental controls

My problem is with Windows Mail and parental controls. When parental controls
is turned off it sends and recieves turn it on and it times out waiting on
server --

I cannot reproduce that behavior going by just the info you gave. Can you be
more specific?

what I want to know is do I need to change the settings to allow Windows Mail
to send and receive mail Parental controls is on to keep my kids safe I do
not want to turn it off I just want it to send and recieve mail

Are we talking about Vista's built-in Parental Controls or some other
parental controls feature, such as the ones in Norton or McAfee security
products?

I experimented with Parental Controls, but even with a user account clamped
down tight with strict parental control settings, I could not prevent e-mail
from downloading, as long as "winmail.exe" (Windows Mail) was allowed
(checked) in the list of programs allowed. So take a look at that setting.

Be sure to enable the antivirus program, too.
