| | Problem sending mail - SMTP or not SMTP! I have what seems to be a common problem, but I'm unable to find a solution. Albeit I can send some emails through Windows Mail, for example to myself or to my work address, I cannot send to fsmail, fsworld addresses or some other addresses. My email is hosted by Pipex. The error message that is displayed reads: The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the "I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider. The rejected e-mail address was '[chevy@xxxxxx]'. Subject 'Fw: Email address', Account: 'pop.dsl.pipex.com', Server: 'smtp.dsl.pipex.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '501 Bad address syntax', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 501, Error Number: 0x800CCC79 |

| | Re: Problem sending mail - SMTP or not SMTP! v8350.fsworld.co.uk doesn't have a DNS server entry, or hasn't had one long enough for it to reach this part of the world. Therefore, sending mail there isn't likely to work. Better check with the addressee by some other means whether that email address is correct, and whether it's on the way to being available in the world's DNS servers. | | Re: Problem sending mail - SMTP or not SMTP! Unfortunately, the problem isn't limited to one address. I've previously mailed these addresses from Outlook, but keep getting the same error message from Windows Mail. I read somewhere that Port 25 may not be suitable. | | Re: Problem sending mail - SMTP or not SMTP! If your connection to pop.dsl.pipex.com goes through any internet provider other than pipex.com before it gets there, it probably isn't suitable. Many email providers block such connections, to cause trouble for spammers. Pipex.com doesn't seem to have set up instruction files for Windows Mail yet. However, the one for Outlook Express will probably work under Windows Mail: http://www.dial.pipex.com/support/ne...ingmail.php#oe Pipex.com appears not to have set up instruction files for its DSL users. Here's one for dialup users to get newsgroups: http://www.dial.pipex.com/support/fa...ex-setup.shtml "RW534" <RW534@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:3618F5B2-D728-4C8E-AD9A-3E58964619B3@xxxxxx Quote: > Unfortunately, the problem isn't limited to one address. | | Re: Problem sending mail - SMTP or not SMTP! It's not a port 25 issue. If all the failing addresses share the "@v8350.fsworld.co.uk" part, then the issue is the same for all. There is no host named v8350.fsworld.co.uk. -- Gary VanderMolen (MS-MVP WLM) "RW534" <RW534@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:3618F5B2-D728-4C8E-AD9A-3E58964619B3@xxxxxx Quote: > Unfortunately, the problem isn't limited to one address.
