| | Importing OE Rules I have more than 1000 rules in Outlook Express that I'd to be used in Windows Mail. How does one import them for use in Vista? |

| | Re: Importing OE Rules No tool exists for such import and identities are not supported in Windows Mail, so the old method of exporting the key from the registry, then editing the identity GUID in Notepad before merging into the new computer will not work. The location for rules in Windows Mail is quite different from earlier operating systems. As a point of interest, I've never heard of anyone with anything approaching 1,000 rules so I'm curious - how much does having that many rules slow down the receipt of mail? Plus I can think of 15-20 reasons why no one human could keep that many rules straight and not have a later rule discarding messages that do not have the "Stop processing more rules" line inserted. -- Jim Pickering MVP-Outlook Express/Windows Mail Please reply to newsgroup only so that others may be helped with your feedback. How does one import them for use in Vista? I can't talk about 1000 rules, but I have over 130 rules, one for every mailing list, and there's no noticeable slow down, even on my old computer (200 MHz) where I keep a backup of my mail. All rules move messages to other mailboxes, and indeed, they all have "Stop processing more rules" checked. I wonder what would happen if they wouldn't. -- Alex. |

| | Re: Importing OE Rules No tool currently exists, but user requests often result in 3rd party programs that address those requests. I think it would be pretty simple to do programmatically, if one had the registry from XP backed up. steve "Jim Pickering" <jimp@mvps.org> wrote in message news:21EF233D-BA0E-47CB-8419-16565906AB07@microsoft.com... > No tool exists for such import and identities are not supported in Windows > Mail, so the old method of exporting the key from the registry, then > editing the identity GUID in Notepad before merging into the new computer > will not work. Well, in Vista the rules are located here in the registry: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Mail\Rules While in OE they were somewhere here: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities\{GUID}\Software\Microsoft\Outlook Express\5.0\Rules The structure in the registry itself seems to have remained unchanged, so a simple search and replace might do the trick, just changing a little bit more than just the GUID. Of course, a backup is in order before trying something with the registry! Saludos Roland -- Vista 5472 Ultimate x86 German - clean install |

| | Re: Importing OE Rules 1000 rules?? in OLEXP? this just sounds like something looking for a place to break... I am curious how did you manage to get that many working with out blowing up? Did you map them out before set up?
