I cannot send mail.

Okay, earlier this week I had a hard time sending through windows mail to the
gmail server, but after a complicated tutorial online that involved me
editting certain files I was able to fix it. I recently added two new e-mail
accounts, but neither of them allow me to send. It tells me this after it
fails:
The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'Re: Your facebook
password', Account: 'AOL', Server: 'smtp.aol.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25,
Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Subject 'This is just a test', Account: 'HuskyMail', Server:
'email.mtu.edu', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 2525, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error Number:
0x800CCC0F
(I used port 2525 because on my college's website it said that if you have
trouble sending through port 25 to use this instead.)

Connections to port 25 that cross from one internet provider's equipment
to another's are likely to be blocked to cause trouble for spammers. Also,
port 25 and SSL are seldom used together. Check AOL's instructions
and see if they call for something else.

Also, click on Tools, then Accounts. For each new email account, click
on the account, then Properties. If there is no check mark in the box
before Include this account when receiving mail or synchronizing, click on
this box and then Apply. Click on OK and go on to the next account.
If there are no more accounts, click on Close.

Click on Tools, then Options, then Send. If there is no check mark in
the box before Send messages immediately, click on this box and then
Apply. Click on OK.

Re: I cannot send mail.

AOL uses a different port for SMTP... 587
Tools - Accounts - youraccount- Properties - Advanced

For your mtu account, did you check [x] "My server requires authenication" ?

Bad philosophy! What works for one mail server will not work for another.
It is always best to use the settings specified by the owner of the particular
mail server:

Re: I cannot send mail.

I used the about.com walkthrough when I was setting it up originally, so
that's not the problem, and I already have those boxes checked.

Re: I cannot send mail.

Windows Mail uses the same settings as Outlook Express.

Re: I cannot send mail.

Your error message says you are using port 25 instead of 587.
Also, you should not be using the SSL option.
