    Can't send out mail

I can't send out mail - my companyy's web tech tried to help me, but he can't
find it either yet. But I am getting an error message that ends in F which he
says is a firewall or security thing not letting me send out. The firewall is
off and I turned off the windows Dender and that did not do it - any other
    suggestions!

Right-click on the error message, copy, then paste it into a reply here.
It contains diagnostic information that we need for troubleshooting.
It is highly unlikely that your problem is due to a firewall or security
issue. Do not turn off any Windows features like Defender.

Thanks so much Gary - here is the error message: Your server has unexpectedly
terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems,
network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Subject 'testing again',
Account: 'exchange.usa.net', Server: 'exchange.usa.net', Protocol: SMTP,

    Re: Can't send out mail

Your settings appear to be correct. It is possible that your antivirus
    program may be the culprit.
Windows Mail is not compatible with most McAfee and Norton
antivirus programs. Those will need to be uninstalled, NOT just disabled.

After uninstalling your non-compatible antivirus, download
and install a more compatible antivirus like:

    AVG free edition:
    http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/us/frt/0?prd=aff
    or
    Avast free edition:
    http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

With either of those, during the install phase you must select custom
install, and then deselect the email scanning option.

    Re: Can't send out mail

Hi Gary - Sorry to have to tell you, but I uninstalled everything with norton
    - I don't see any about McAff - and downloaded the first anitvirus you gave
me - I also found the Windows defender and clicked off the emailing scanning
and I still can not send out mail. I can't believe it - any other
    thoughts/ideas? Joni

    Re: Can't send out mail

Since we have ruled out the antivirus possibility, that leaves two other
    possibilities:
    1. Your Windows Mail is corrupted, or
    2. There is something non-standard about that server, which is an Exchange
    server.

To eliminate 1), you would have to try a different email program, such as
    Windows Live Mail:
    http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview

To eliminate 2), you would have to try a different mail server.
You can get a free Gmail account: http://gmail.com,
configure the server for POP access:
    http://mail.google.com/support/bin/a...n&answer=13273
then add that account to Windows Mail:
    http://mail.google.com/support/bin/a...y?answer=13276
(Those instructions are for Outlook Express, but they will work in WM.)
