    Vista Mail filtering

    I am thinking of updating to Vista from Windows XP, and would like to
    know if Vista Mail filtering provided any improvement on Outlook Express.

    In particular can filtering be done on news header fields like

    X-Complaints-To:
    NNTP-Posting-Host:

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Based on my experience, hang on to Outlook Express for as long as you
    can. Windows Mail (what you refer to as Vista Mail) is very different
    in the way it handles contacts. The Outlook Express address book has
    been replaced with an awkward to use contact list with a bevy of funky
    features added that are not needed by many users. Example: Do you need
    a picture of your email contact?

    Also, if you get Vista, be prepared to deal with many other issues
    related to downloaded software (utility software and other types) that
    worked flawlessly under XP but will not work the same, if at all, under
    Vista. In some cases, the original developer is no longer supporting
    the software, so you will have to do some things differently, if at
    all. It goes on and on.

    If you are busy trying to keep up with your activities and you depend
    heavily on your computer, protect your sanity and stick with XP for as
    long as possible. Vista will buy you a whole bunch of headaches, added
    cost, and new features of questionable benefit. Hasta la vista, Vista!

    The best advice you can get from people who have encountered upgrading to
    Vista is to keep your sanity and stay away, FAR, FAR away from Vista. It
    will drive you absolutely insane trying to make things work. For example it
    took me 3 days trying to import my Outlook Express contacts to Vista. Still
    can't get the messages to import no matter what I try and I've tried them
    all.

    Wish someone would have warned me.

    Re: Vista Mail filtering

    Have you tried these instructions for importing the messages?

    <http://www.askmehelpdesk.com/email/import-dbx-files-outlook-express-windows-mail-vista-86458.html>

    <http://www.vista4beginners.com/Migrate-from-Outlook-Express-to-Windows-Mail>

    After you copy the files to a directory on your new computer, but before
    you import then into Windows Mail, make sure the copies are read-write
    instead of readonly. Since you already have the contacts, you do not
    need to bring along the .wab file.
