Can't send Pictures

I have been trying to send JPEG files by email unsuccessfully. I get no
error message the only sign they haven't gone out comes when the folks I'm
mailing say they never arrived. These are not large files (472kb).
Is it maybe the security either in the Vista or the Norton? I can't figure
out what or what to do to fix it. I'm a facepainter, I NEED to be able to
send pictures...help!

Re: Can't send Pictures

See if this solves your problem.
Get rid of Norton (a disaster waiting to happen). Replace with AVG or
Avast...both free. Disabling Norton is not enough. Uninstall it.

Re: Can't send Pictures

Windows Mail is not compatible with most versions of Norton security software.
As a test uninstall anything "Norton" and then try sending those pictures to yourself.

Does this happen with any attachments or just .jpg files?
Is the problem file size sensitive?
Can you send the file to yourself?
Does a header arrive at a recipient if there is no attachment?
Is the file in your Outgoing or Send folder in e-mail?
Do you get any indication on your network icon that there is data going out
and did the file transition from the Outgoing folder to the Sent folder?
What e-mail client are we talking about? Windows Mail?

Windows Mail have problems attaching anything when it is open in
some other program. Try closing the other programs first.

Most of the antivirus programs from Norton or McAfee, and a
recent one from Trend, cause assorted problems in Windows
Mail, although seldom immediately, and must be uninstalled,
not just disabled, to stop them from creating new problems.
Then, for Norton, run this cleanup program:

<http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039>

You may then need to remove your email account under
Windows Mail, then create it again, to finish the cleanup.

If this solves your problem, you may then want a replacement
antivirus program. I recommend either avast! or AVG,
either one with a custom install that tells it to leave out the
part that scans email.

Re: Can't send Pictures

-I wasn't sure about other attachments so I just tested and a text doc. came
through just fine.
-I have tried a variety of file sizes but nothing goes through.
-I can not send the file to myself. and on doing a test nothing arrived in
my inbox, no header no attachmenbt.
-The file does show-up in my sent message folder.
-- I do see the box showing a message going out
-I just did another test and yes it went from the outbox to the sent folder
but when I try to recieve mail I do not get it.
-Yes I am using Windows Mail

Re: Can't send Pictures

If I leave out the email scan what protects the email from viruses and other
problems?

Ok...good info. Looks like it's getting out ok. Oh, one more thing. If
you check the sent mail file, is the .jpg attachment still attached?
Looks more like it's an ISP or E-mail provider problem. Are you paying for
this service? You don't by chance use one of those accounts that limit
attachments, do you? Did this ever work or did this just start (not)
happening. Who is your ISP and e-mail service provider? I can't think of a
Vista security that would behave like this but I don't know about Norton.
Can you shut off all e-mail testing in Norton?

Well, first find out if this is the problem. Try stopping the virus
checking and send a file to yourself (to contain any possible
contamination). Then if we have success we'll use the Ted Kennedy
strategy, you know, "We'll cross that bridge when we get to it"
