Vista and Emails

I'm having problems with Windows Mail, I can send mail but can't
receive any. I've talked to my provider, they tell me that my set up is
fine, but they don't know what's wrong. I'm getting error message of
0x800ccc0f.
I've even tried other mail programs, like Thunderbird and Outlook. They
don't work either and are giving me the same error message. I'm using a
cable connection and haven't had this problem before, until a bought a new
computer with Vista. The first day or two, my emails worked great, did not
change any settings nor added any programs. Then all of a sudden, started
getting the error messages.
The only way that I can view my mail is to go to my providers
web site and use web mail, which is a pain. I'm just about ready to junk
vista and go back to Windows XP. at least, I didn't have problems like
this.

That's not enough of the error message for us to offer much help. Show
us all of it instead.

Re: Vista and Emails

the complete error message is:
Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Account: 'kenmckenzie.pop.sunflower.com', Server:
'kenmckenzie.pop.sunflower.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No,
Error Number: 0x800CCC0F.

My internet provider said that there's nothing wrong on their end.

Re: Vista and Emails

sunflower.com doesn't have anything on their web site indicating they
are an internet provider. You might check if they are up to date on
the updates for their server software, since there was an update
several months ago that helped Vista users connect for email.

Check your settings here, this is for OE but are exactly the same in WM.

Re: Vista and Emails

I had essentially the same problem and tried everything known to mankind
including uninstalling Norton, changing different settings over and over,
restarting computer, etc., all without success, and then followed advice of
the same 2 people who first responded to your thread (See Sandra Mathews
question on thread posted 2-9-08). I found out, through READING my ISP's
website, and NOT from the support staff who answered phone calls who told me
inaccurate settings (I guess they thought I knew basic info and I didn't),
that the ISP doesn’t support incoming email handled by a third party
(Windows Mail) because of spam. I think I am going to like Windows Live
Mail. So far, so good.

Re: Vista and Emails

Your Internet provider has little or nothing to do with it since the
problem server, 'kenmckenzie.pop.sunflower.com' does not belong
to your ISP. One possibility is that the mail server for sunflower.com
is ancient and is not fully Vista compatible.

Try this:
1. Click on Vista's Start button and type "cmd" (without the quotes).
2. The search results will display a program named cmd.exe.
3. Right-click on cmd.exe and select "Run as administrator"
4. Type "netsh interface tcp set global autotuning=disabled" (without
the quotation marks)
5. Test your POP account and see if you can download your mail.
6. If nothing changes, re-enable the autotuning feature by typing
"netsh interface tcp set global autotuning=normal"

Re: Vista and Emails

Just tried the disabled, the crompt said OK, tired mail and again received
the same error message. Then put to normal, got an OK, tired mail and
received the same error message. I also called Sunflower, they said that they
updated their system a while back and they are getting email service on their
computers, he again checked my cable, asked me to disable the Fire wall, said
that my modem was working, and didn't see any problems there.

Re: Vista and Emails

thanks, I tried Live mail, signed into my hot mail account, and it came right
up. Then tried my sunflower account, received the error. That tells me that
it has to be my internet provider. I'll keep after them.
