| | emails deleting themselves Just as earlier post says...I too have, in just the past 2 days, begun to have something wacky going on with my Windows Mail. When I open, it receives and posts mesages in the appropriate folders so it is downloading the mesages and the count of how many in each folder. BUT, then the problems start...Sometimes, if I open the email and read it, then move to another folder with mail it deletes the emails just read in the first folder. Other times, it will delete the mail in one particular folder just as I click to open it and read them. I have already gone through and checked View---> Current View---Show All. I have also watched carefully at the top right corner of my email and each of the 3 folders is marked "Show all Mesages". Nothing is marked to be "Hidden". I have also checked and re-checked the three message rules. The deleted mails are nowhere else to be found. It's now to the point where I may not even get to read them once deposited in the folder of my mailbox. One folder in particular is having the most problems. |

| | Re: emails deleting themselves I have had McAfee for years through Me, XP, and now Vista (for 6+ months). Never had this problem but noticed "willow" whom you replied to just recently started having the same problem. I am very dissatisfied with the stablility of Vista. I have frequent physical dumps that I continue to alert Microsoft about in hopes of finding out what is causing them. Now this email issue taht is causing me to get angry calls from people who have clearly sent emails to the one folder and have not goten a reply because those emails delete before I get to read them as soo as I click on that folder to open and read "Gary VanderMolen" wrote: Quote: > Which antivirus are you using? | | Re: emails deleting themselves Most versions of the McAfee antivirus software tend to cause assorted problems in Windows Mail, although seldom immediately. So do most versions of the Norton antivirus software, and a recent version from Trend. To stop them from causing new problems, you have to uninstall them, not just disable them. For McAfee, you then need to run this cleanup program: <http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=107083&lc=4105&partner=McAfee&type=TS&ia=1> You may then need to remove your email account under Windows Mail, and then create it again, to finish the cleanup. Windows Mail does not handle email scanning well, although many antivirus companies have added such a feature in hopes of getting your money, without enough checking to make sure it does not cause problems. If this fixes your problem, you may want a replacement antivirus program. I recommend either avast! or AVG, either one with a custom install that tells it to leave out the part that scans email. If it doesn't fix your problem, you may want to switch to Microsoft's new email program, Windows Live Mail, which is more resistant to such problems. http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview "Jan" <Jan@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:412F1027-7E96-41C2-9853-89DB2238C83A@xxxxxx Quote: >I have had McAfee for years through Me, XP, and now Vista (for 6+ months). > Never had this problem but noticed "willow" whom you replied to just > recently > started having the same problem. | | Re: emails deleting themselves I was planning to install new antivirus software as my McAfee is nearly expired. beside AVG, would you also recommend CA Anit-virus 2008 as an alternative?
