Can't open e-mail attachment

When trying to open attachment, I get a error message. "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the set associations control panel." How do I find the associations control panel and correct this error? This doesn't happens all the time.

Was their an extension at the end of the filename? (i.e., three letters
after the dot) Can you tell us what it is. Were you expecting this file.
Did the sender tell you where it came from? If not I'd be suspicious right
there. You don't want to open it.
If you trust the file, just drag it into your most comfortable folder, right
click on it, then select a default application to open it. It open properly
from then on. If a suitable application is not loaded in your machine, you
have another problem. You can find the program associated with each
extension with a little internet searching. Then decide what to do.

Re: Can't open e-mail attachment

Before we can help you, please find out which specific file extensions
do not work for you, .DOC, .XLS, .PPS? Then, save that attachment,
close Windows Mail, then open that saved file by double-clicking on it.
Let us know if that worked.

Re: Can't open e-mail attachment

What this means is that the attachment file type does not match any of the
programs you have installed on your computer. The key to this is usually
the extension of the file name (the part after the period as in
document.doc). The file might be from a program you don't have, or more
likely the sender has changed the extension from its default. Some people
do that to be cute in naming the files, but is very confusing to the
recipient.
What is the filename that you are trying to open?
