sending photos by e-mail and reduce photo size

Just purchased a new Dell 6400 and now want to send my photos to others. Have
clicked on attchment in e-mail, clicked on my docs---into photos--clicked on
the chosen photo to e-mail---e-mail page comes up with attachment BUT also in
text part of e-mail page a GIANT photo which takes an age to send. Any tips
on just to include attachment only, without this large additional photo.
Worked well on my old system---but Vista seems to churn up one or two problems

Windows Mail displays many types of attachments in the body of the message
if
it knows how. You may look for a way to reduce the size of the picture file
before
you send it instead; that will make the message go faster even if only one
copy
actually goes out, but will remove a little of the detail in the picture.
After reducing
the file size and storing it in a new file, close all the programs that
access the picture
before attaching it, since Windows Mail has problems adding attachments that
are
open in some other program.
