| | Why cant I receive mail? I have just bought a replacement laptop. The old one had Outlook. The new one has Windows Mail. I have set up an e-mail account on the new one using the same address as the e-mail account on the old one (hoping that friends could still e-mail me using the old address). I can send mail from this account on the new laptop and know that it is is received by the recipient. However, I cannot receive mail. When I try to receive mail I get a prompt saying 'Please confirm user name and password'. When I do so the prompt simply repeats itself and so I cannot receive any mail. Any suggestions would be very gratfeully received. Thanks. |

Are you sure you're using CAPITAL and lowercase letters in the correct places in your password? Some, but not all, email servers are picky about details like these. |

| | Re: Why cant I receive mail? As the error message indicates, your settings may be sending an invalid command to the server. Go to Tools, Accounts, select the Talktalk account, Properties, Servers. Make sure that "Log on using Secure Password Authentication" is not checked.
