| Guest | Setting up new email account in Windows Mail Can someone please help a non-tech user? I'm trying to set up a new email account on a new laptop. I've got my own email account on my own PC but want to set up a separate account for my wife on the laptop. So far as I am aware I've followed all the printed instructions but still can't get the account to work. Step by step this is what I've done: 1 clicked Tools>Accounts>Add 2 (a) on the Properties>General Page I've typed my wife's name in Mail Account (b) in User Information I've put her name (c) in Email Adress I've put her name xxxxxxxxxx@xxxxxx (d) ticked 'Include this account when receiving mail or synchronising' 3 on the Servers Page: (a) Incoming Mail POP3 I've entered mail.btinternet.com (b) Outgoing Mail SMTP I've entered mail.btinternet.com (c) in Email User Name I've entered my wife's name (not the email address) (d) when I try to enter a password the space is grayed out (e) I've ticked 'My Server Requires Authentication' (f) I've clicked on the Settings button but left everything blank. The other pages I've not touched. So far as I can tell the account is exactly the same as the one I set up for myself using Outlook Exlress except of course I've substituted my wife's name for mine. Whenever I try to send an email from the new account I keep getting a pop-up window asking me to log on and give the password and can't get any further. I've tried sending an email from my PC to the laptop but that operation also fails. What am I doing wrong? Steve |

Also, check the settings: <http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/forums/index.cfm?action=showthread&threadid=289750&forumid=20> These instructions were written for Outlook Express, but should also work under Windows Mail as long as they don't call for the HTTP protocol. |

| Guest | Re: Setting up new email account in Windows Mail Your mistake was "in Email User Name I've entered my wife's name (not the email address)." It needs the full email address. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (WLMail) "Dragonman" <Dragonman@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:A9A53CE8-C194-4219-8128-3920E6927579@xxxxxx Quote: > Can someone please help a non-tech user? > > I'm trying to set up a new email account on a new laptop.
