Please explain this error message to me!

Server unexpectedly terminated connection possible causes include network
problems, server problems, long period of inactivity. Subject 'H' account:
pop.gmail.com, server: smtp.gmail.com, protocol:smtp, port 25, secure (ssl):
yes, socket error: 10053, error number: 0x800ccc0F. I get this message when
i try to send an email. I am new to windows mail i have been using yahoo and
gmail. That doesnt work to many times trying to contact businesses on line.
I think i have configured everything like it said, but cant figure out why i
cant send messages. Any help would be greatly appreciated...... Thanks

Re: Please explain this error message to me!

You did a fairly good job paraphrasing that error message, but next time,
right-click on it, copy, then paste it into a reply here. There are some very
subtle errors (comma instead of a semicolon, etc.) that tend to get lost in
a manual paraphrase. [/dismounts soapbox].

The real problem here is that you are using the wrong port, 25 instead of
465. Check all your settings against the Gmail directions:

Problems receiving mail/error code: 10053

I have had no problems sending or receiving mail for months. Several days
ago, I discovered that my incoming mail was not working. I continue to send
with no problems. Sometimes, if I reboot the computer...the incoming mail
will arrive and sometimes not. It can work one minute and an hour later...no
mail. Following is the error message:

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Account: 'NAME DELETED', Server: 'mail.namedeleted.com',
Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10053, Error
Number: 0x800CCC0F

I do run Norton, the Windows firewall and Windows Defender. I did
disconnect the DSL and reconnect to "reset" it. The only thing that changed
in the same time frame was that we put our website up. It is being hosted by
the company that also handles our incoming mail. They tell me there is no
change on their end.

What steps should I take...thanks

Re: Problems receiving mail/error code: 10053

Over time, some antivirus programs tend to cause corruption
in Windows Mail. Windows Mail is not compatible with most
McAfee and Norton security programs. Those will need to be
uninstalled, NOT just disabled.

After uninstalling your non-compatible antivirus, download
and install a more compatible antivirus like:
AVG free edition:
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/us/frt/0?prd=aff
or
Avast free edition:
http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

With either of those, during the install phase you must select custom
install, and then deselect the email scanning option.
