How to activate Preview Pane in Windows Mail?

I click on Organize in Windows Explorer and then on Layout. There are only
two options in the box which opens up: 1) Menu Bar and 2) Navigation Pane.
The third option of Preview Pane does not show up. Could anyone advise how
to get it?

The book "Windows Vista Inside Out" by Bott, Siechert and Stinson says that
one can customize Windows Mail by activating a Preview Pane so that one can
preview a mail message before clicking it open for detailed reading. How to
do this in WinMail?

Looks like you are trying to do it in the wrong program. Try this:
Start Windows Mail. Click on View, then Layout in the Windows
Mail window. The bottom half of the new window allows you to
make selections for the Preview Pane. Click Apply after making
the changes, if any. Click OK to close this window.

Re: How to activate Preview Pane in Windows Mail?

You are right. I have the Preview Pane and it was always been there, even in XP. My mistake was: wrongly interpreting the illustration given of the Preview Pane in the Book. It looks like a Pop-Up Box which opens in some situations when one moves the mouse on an item.
I had never noted that the lower pane of the Message Headers Pane was referred to as the Preview Pane. In fact the Pane and the scrolling button on the right enable one to see the entire message without opening it in a fresh window. And the lower Pane is just enough for most of my messages, even without using the scroller button. So I wrongly jumped to the expectation that a Pop-Uo kind of Box would appear showing the first few lines of the message as I moved the mouse over the header in the upper Pane. That is not the implication of the Name "Preview Pane".

I have corrected my own mistake and that is the end of my question. Sorry for raising a doubt where it should not have been.
