Received email disappears

Hello,
I am running Windows Vista home edition and when I receive my email using Windows Mail, it says it is receiving the email ok but then it all disappears. There are no messages in the inbox or any other folder. I tested that my email is getting to my mailbox on my ISP'S server by using their webmail. I have had people send me test messages and they all show up in the mailbox. After I start up Windows mail and it says it is receiving "n" messages and then they disappear, I logged back onto my webmail and all the mail is gone so I know it is being sent to my PC. Can anyone help with this problem? I have no idea where the messages are going to, they just seem to disappear. I hav uninstalled the antivirus program that I had because I thought maybe it had something to do with it but that did not do any good. I have no other firewalls or anything running on the PC outside of what comes with Vista.
thanks for the help in advance,
ahzrahn

Re: Received email disappears

With the Inbox selected, make sure that the current view is
"Show All Messages" (View, Current View).

If that was not the problem, which antivirus are you running?

Re: Received email disappears

HI Gary,

Thank you for replying.
I have checked all the settings in Windows Mail and everything in there is normal. View all messages is checked etc. I had Norton Internet Security installed on the PC but I uninstalled it because I thought it may be causing the problem and even when I told the firewall in there to allow Windows Mail, the messages still disappeared. Now NIS is unistalled and the email still disappears. It is weird. I never saw anything like this. Windows mail will say it is receiving messages and I can watch the progress of that process and then when it finishes, no messages show up in any of the folders. If I click on local folders to see all of them they all show 0 messages contained in them.

A Norton uninstall often leaves too much behind. Try this program for
cleaning up after the uninstall:

<http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039>

You may also need to remove your email account under Windows Mail,
then restart Windows Mail and add the account again.

Also, for each folder the mail could be in, click on the folder, then View,
then Current View, then Show All Messages.

Re: Received email disappears

If the additional suggestion from Robert don't fix the problem,
your only remaining solution is to upgrade to Windows Live Mail:

Re: Received email disappears

I have had the same problem and it is definitely the truly appalling Windows Mail. My solution is to ditch Vista completely and revert to XP and Outlook Express. I think Mocrosoft are testing the product on an unsuspecting audience as also their helpline has no suggestions whatsoever for fixing this

Re: Received email disappears

We probably could have helped you with that problem.
It seems rather radical to throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Re: Received email disappears

Hi Gary
I know it is radical (baby/bathwater) but it is out of sheer frustration - I am actually losing business because of this mail problem. I'm planning to do the switch (Vista to XP) on Monday. You say you might be able to help - many thanks in advance.

Re: Received email disappears

OK -- standing by.
My help potential is limited because I haven't used an XP
computer for over 20 months, and XP-specific problems are
better handled elsewhere.

Re: Received email disappears

I have the same problem, seems to only happen when I'm waking the computer up. I'll see the list of incoming emails, but the last one received will disappear when the send/receive is finished.
Can't find it anywhere. I've got "show all messages" selected but it doesn't matter.
Email disappears without a trace, very frustrating.
Meanwhile, Bill is laughing all the way to the bank!
