Sign in --- HOW?

Just having subscribed to microsoft newsgroups from within Windows Mail, I'm
unable to sign in. Clicking on the Sign in button gets no response. When
posting it asks me if I want to sign in and when I click on YES, nothing
happens.
I would rather access newsgroups inside IE7 but there I'm not able to reply
at all. Is there a connection?

I had no trouble connecting through Windows Mail, possibly because I have
years of experience dealing with newsgroups. Did you enter a name and
an email address (not necessarily a correct email address, but not one
belonging to someone else) under your Microsoft Communities account
before you tried to sign in? It doesn't require a password. You can always
add .invalid to the end of an email address to make sure it won't reach
anyone else.

In Windows Mail

Tools>Accounts>msnews.microsoft.com>Properties
Under the Server tab make sure "This server requires me to logon" is
unticked.

OK

You need a MS Passport, (windows live ID), to do anything other than read
the online version of the newsgroups.
In WM you can add the PP details at tools>accounts>MS news account> W.L.I/D.

To stop WM asking you to sign in go to tools>options>general>disable "use
newsgroup rating feature">apply/ok

Re: Sign in --- HOW?

You are probably talking about the Communities sign-in feature, which
is optional. Most people turn it off because it is buggy:
Tools, Options, under General, uncheck "Use newsgroups message
rating features."

Re: Sign in --- HOW?

OK, powered down and restarted the puter and I can now sign in.
Restarting often solves a lot of problems and I should have tried this
first.
