The default setting is to open new messages in Outlook Express. I want to
stop this and use Gmail . Can anyone help me to reset OE or Gmail to achieve
this?

Outlook Express won't work in Vista.
Do you mean Windows Mail?
You can access Gmail via a web browser, or enable POP or IMAP and download
your messages. Which do you want to do?

In Vista it's Windows Mail not Outlook Express.
View>Layout>uncheck Preview Pane.

What does this question have to do with the topic of this newsgroup,
the Windows Mail program?
If you meant to say Windows Mail (instead of OE), try this Gmail fix:

I have not used that fix, and don't know if it works in Vista.
