Receiving mail issues on Windows Mail

Hi,

I've been redirecting my webmail to my Windows Mail on my p.c since November
but since last week I've had issues. I get the following message:

Account: 'mail.xxxxxxxxxxxxxx.com', Server: 'mail.xxxxxxxxxxxxxx.com',
Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR Cannot connect to POP server
82.110.105.110 (82.110.105.110:110), connect error 10061', Port: 110,
Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC90

I've tried removing the email scanning from Norton to no avail and a couple
of other suggested options, but nothing.

When I shut down recently I had a big update install come through. Could
this be a problem?

Thanks

Mark

Re: Receiving mail issues on Windows Mail

The error message is useless without the server name.

Try completely uninstalling Norton.

Re: Receiving mail issues on Windows Mail

Gary,

The full error message reads:

Account: 'mail.relisheurope.com', Server: 'mail.relisheurope.com', Protocol:
POP3, Server Response: '-ERR Cannot connect to POP server 82.110.105.110
(82.110.105.110:110), connect error 10061', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No,
Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC90The full erorr message is:

I completely uninstalled Norton earlier, went into Windows Mail and still no
luck.

I've since reinstalled Norton and switched off email scanning for both
outbound and inbound messages.

I have Avast running too - could that be causing an issue?

Thanks

Mark

Re: Receiving mail issues on Windows Mail

Completely remove your mail accounts and then close and reopen WinMail and
add them back again.

Re: Receiving mail issues on Windows Mail

You should never have more than one AV product installed, because
each tries to be king of the hill, which causes conflicts.

Your current issue, however, does not seem to be antivirus related.
Although the server named mail.relisheurope.com exists, I could not get
it to respond to a connection request on port 110. So, apparently the
mail server app on that server has crashed. Contact the owner or
responsible admin.

Re: Receiving mail issues on Windows Mail

Having two antivirus programs installed at once tends to cause various
problems. For many versions of the Norton antivirus program, you
tend to get various problems, even with email scanning disabled,
although seldom immediately, even if that's the only antivirus program
you have installed, so I recommend you pick it as the one to uninstall.
Then run this cleanup program to take care of what the uninstall left
behind:

<http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039>

You may even need to remove your email account under Windows
Mail, then restart Windows Mail and add the account again.

If you did the standard install for avast!, it's likely to help to
uninstall it, then do a custom install where you tell it to leave out
the part that scans email.

http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

If you want more security, you can add more than one antispyware
program. The two I've had for months are:
