Emails won't be marked as read nor will they disappear when deleted!?

Two days ago, all of a sudden, my emails would get marked as read or automatically move to the deleted folder when deleted. Instead, they remain BOLD black until I exit the inbox THEN return. At that point, the messages are either marked as read or have been deleted.

It is weird....nothing was changed by me! The box "Mark as read" is set to 0 seconds and that never changed.

Any ideas or suggestions???? It's annoying to have to click on EVERY message in order to get it read and then delete what I want, move to the next message, delete it, etc.......exit the folder, then return to it for the messages to be corrected.

Thanks.

Re: Emails won't be marked as read nor will they disappear when deleted!?

My problem isn't listed in that original thread....I looked! :-)

My issue is just really weird. Again, emails don't mark as read even though in the TOOLS, OPTIONS, it is checked as "Mark as Read" after 0 seconds. It doesn't do it until I leave a certain folder then return. When I return, it IS marked as read if I read it. However, the subject doesn't turn from bold to normal at first. It is only "normal" after I return to the folder. As for the delete problem, I just don't see the email as deleted until I leave the folder then return. Upon my return, it IS gone. It just doesn't leave when I hit the DELETE key.

I'm not sure setting the Mark as read box to 0 seconds works as expected.
Does setting it to 1 second help?

Also, there are a number of problems caused by interference from
antivirus programs, although these problems often take months to appear.
What if any antivirus programs, antispyware programs, firewall programs,
and other security programs do you have?

If you have the Google Toolbar program installed, uninstall it, since
it causes problems in Windows Mail.

If you have a program with SMS in its name installed, tell us its full
name.

Setting READ to 0, 1, or 2 seconds doesn't change anything. It's WEIRD!

I am using Norton 360 for anitvirus.

Yes, Google toolbar is intalled with Internet Explorer.

What a MESS of a program this Window's Mail is..... Outlook Express was SO much better. I am wondering if I should switch to something else. YEARS ago, I used Eudora....I wonder if THAT is still available.

Thanks everyone.

Most versions of the Norton antivirus program eventually cause
problems in Windows Mail. So do most versions of the McAfee
antivirus program, and a recent version of the Trend antivirus
program. Just disabling these programs seldom helps; you'll
probably have to uninstall them instead. For the Norton program,
you'll probably then need to run this cleanup program to take
care of what the uninstall left behind:

You may then need to remove your email account under Windows
Mail, then restart Windows Mail and add the account again.

If it's a separate program, not just a part of your home web site,
uninstall it also.

If this cures your problem, you may want a replacement antivirus
program that doesn't cause such problems. I recommend either
avast! or AVG, either one with a custom install that tells it to leave
out the part that scans email.

Outlook Express won't run under Vista.

These sites suggest Eudora hasn't been updated to run under Vista yet, but
there are plans to do this in the future:

I suggest you disregard time-wasting 'advice' from anyone who
says this is the "Vista Forums " because it isn't.
