How to prevent that the lower part of the characters <g, j, p, q, y> are "cut off" at the four top lines <From:, Date:, To:, Subject:>??

Hi there,

Indeed, unlike in Outlook Express, I noticed that those five characters featuring
a lower section in their "design" are being displayed without such "extension"...

Of course it's not really "a big issue", nevertheless I'm a bit annoyed (!).

So any valuable tip of how to fix this would be appreciated; thanks in advance.

Best regards,

Philippe

Try right clicking on the Desktop and choose personalize and then try changing the font size (DPI) on the upper left. It may also be due to what you are using for the icon font.

You must be using a very unusual system font, or an overly large DPI setting.
Those character descenders don't even come close to being cut off on my screen.

BTW, please don't post in HTML, or if you do, not in such a tiny font.

Thank you very much Steve for your valid reply.

Unfortunately I'm already using its default setting, ie. at 96 DPI...
However I could try to change the icon font, but would that affect
ALSO the font at Windows Mail (at "From, Date, To, Subject")??
But if so, kindly let me know "how" to proceed; thanks in advance!
Bye, Philippe

Dear Gary,

Thank you very much for your valid reply.

Nope, I'm using its default setting at 96 DPI...

But then I could try indeed to change the system font
itself...but then "where" can it be altered at Vista?'
So thanks in advance for "guiding" me accordingly...

Bye, Philippe.
PS: Thanks for advising me, not to use HTML.

Hi Philippe,

The icon font will change all the other windows. I'm not sure what else
could be influencing the characters being cut off on your system. What font
is it using now for the icon font?

Right-click on the desktop, Personalize, Windows Color and Appearance,
"Open classic appearance properties...", Advanced; under Item, select Icon,
choose font and size.
Whew, MS sure managed to bury this setting in Vista!

Hello Steve,

Hmm, would you be kind enough to give me "the path" for
finding out which font I'm actually using at my desk's icons?

Thanks...

Re: How to prevent that the lower part of the characters <g, j, p, q, y> are "cut off" at the four top lines <From:, Date:, To:, Subject:>??

Hi Gary,

Thanks for your guideline; I was now able to check it up:
My default font+size is MS Sans Serif (8).
So I then tried several different fonts and sizes...but to no avail;
ie. those character descenders (q - p - y) are still being cut off
at Window Mail (at "From:" and "To:").

However I noticed now the following:
It's actually only affecting the Line 1 (From and Line 3 (To!
Indeed, those characters stated there are placed slightly lower
than the actual positioning/height of "From:" and "To:"!
Hence, not enough width left for those descenders...

Whereas Line 2 (Date and Line 4 (Subject are exactly
lined up on same height as their title (Date:+Subjcet...

Hmm, so is there a way to "line up" (lift up) those Line 1+3?

Philippe

Well, Gary gave you that information.

Can you make a screenshot using the snippet tool and then post it here?
HTML is okay so we can see what it looks like.
