| | Windows Vista Mail opening automatically Hi! I have a strange problem that I have found no solution for. At regular intervals Windows Mail starts and jumps to the foregroudn on its own without any action by me that would cause this behavior. Typical example is when playing a game/watching a video in full screen mode Mail jumps up and throws the other program in the background. This is extremely annoying, any suggestions on what might be causing this? I haved no mail accounts configured in Mail and I have tried to disable all automatic notifications and automatic checing for new messages. Help appreciated! |

Do you have more than one antivirus program installed (not a good idea)? What if any antivirus programs and antispyware programs do you have? Have you updated the spyware database of your antispyware programs lately, then run them? |

| | Re: Windows Vista Mail opening automatically I have Norman antivirus installed, which is updated and I have scanned the computer without finding anything. No antispyware as the computer is brand new and I have not gotten around to that yet. The Mail problem was one of the first issues I noticed when starting to use the computer (and Vista). | | Re: Windows Vista Mail opening automatically If I open msconfig I recognize all theprograms listed under startup, and none of them should be causing this behavior? Also, Mail is not opened as part of the startup process, it opens seemingly randomly at some point in time after the computer has booted. Do you mean that the on-access scanner in Norton is somehow triggering Mail to start? "Steve Cochran" wrote: Quote: > Norton is actually a cause of many WinMail problems. | | Re: Windows Vista Mail opening automatically Yes I know that I can have various antyspyware programs installed, I have previously used both the ones you mention. However, I am currently not interested in antispyware, I am interested in stopping Mail from jumping to the foreground every five minutes. Is there somehow I can uninstall Mail? I am not interested in using the software and currently it is making doing anything else than surfing very hard as it jumps to the foreground all the timel "robertmiles@xxxxxx" wrote: Quote: > You can have more than one antispyware program. | | Re: Windows Vista Mail opening automatically Windows Mail comes as a part of Vista and is very hard to uninstall without also doing this to the rest of Vista. You can keep it from doing much if you open it by removing all the accounts under it, and delete all the shortcuts that make it easy to start. I'm not sure you can take away its properties as the default mail program without making some other program the default mail program instead. | | Re: Windows Vista Mail opening automatically Also check the services and see what services are running at startup. My guess would be that in fact Norton is causing the trouble. I don't know how or why, but the WinMail process doesn't start by itself. You can also examine event viewer to see what the WinMail extensible storage engine (ESENT) is doing. steve "TomasG" <TomasG@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:9264EF9D-8CD3-4B71-8B6C-3A8FE0CFFC65@xxxxxx Quote: > > If I open msconfig I recognize all theprograms listed under startup, and > none of them should be causing this behavior?
