cannot start microsoft outlook

Brought a new pc with vista on it, now I cannot open the old pst files
located on an exteral drive. Therefor I installed Office 97, all
applications do work except microsoft mail, the error message is: cannot
start microsoft outlook. How to read my old pst's.

Question; What is the extension of Vista mail file and where is it
located?

Re: cannot start microsoft outlook

I dont believe Outlook 97 will run on Vista
You cannot read pst's except from within OL
If your old system is still functioning; in Outlook Express import your
msgs, then port your OE msg store to the new Vista PC and connect them to
Mail
If Mail doesnt start, then you might need to repair Vista
Only Outlook 2003 & 2007 are fully compatible with Vista

Re: cannot start microsoft outlook

Outlook versions older than 2003 will cause problems with Vista
and Windows Mail. For more, see
http://www.outlook-tips.net/howto/vista.htm

It isn't clear to me whether you are trying to use Windows Mail now.
You will find it on the Start Menu under All Programs.
