| | Cannot send e-mail / Bellsouth.net is my ISP I have just received a new computer which uses Vista/Microsoft Windows Mail. My previous OS was Millenium and I used Outlook Express to send and retrieve e-mails from my Bellsouth account. I set up my Windows Mail the same as my Outlook Express mail Account with my incoming Pop3 and outgoing SMTP both set as mail.atl.bellsouth.net. I am able to retrieve mail from my bellsouth account but I am unable to send mail from Windows Mail. Does any one know what the prolbem could be. My antivirus program is PC-cillin. Help please! -- jhuff |

I have actually done this via the Wizard exactly as they instructed and the only thing I had not originally done was check the 'outgoing requires authentication box'. I'm still not able to send. | | Re: Cannot send e-mail / Bellsouth.net is my ISP Yes, this is why I asked to see the error message. | | Re: Cannot send e-mail / Bellsouth.net is my ISP This has nothing to do with Windows Mail. Any POP email program you might try will behave the same. The reason why providers block port 25 SMTP service except their own is explained here: http://www.postcastserver.com/help/P..._Blocking.aspx There are 4 possible workarounds: 1. Use webmail for sending: http://webmail.att.net 2. Use a port other than '25' for SMTP, if BellSouth has a provision for that. 3. Ask Verizon Wireless if they have an SMTP server you can use. 4. Get a free Gmail account, configure it for POP access, and use it for your sending chores. Gmail uses port 465 for SMTP. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (WLMail) "jhuff" <jhuff@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:59CD715D-F6C5-434D-A8D5-CDDE532617F0@xxxxxx Quote: > Thanks. > > Here is the error message I receive: > > The connection to the server has failed.
