Vista - Cannot send e-mail / Bellsouth.net is my ISP

I have just received a new computer which uses Vista/Microsoft Windows Mail.
My previous OS was Millenium and I used Outlook Express to send and retrieve
e-mails from my Bellsouth account.

I set up my Windows Mail the same as my Outlook Express mail Account with my
incoming Pop3 and outgoing SMTP both set as mail.atl.bellsouth.net.

I am able to retrieve mail from my bellsouth account but I am unable to send
mail from Windows Mail.

Does any one know what the prolbem could be. My antivirus program is
PC-cillin. Help please!

Also, if you want to set up the bellsouth.net newsgroup server,
see here, then click on Newsreader Setup, then Setup instructions
for Microsoft Internet Explorer Newsreader.

These instructions were originally written for Outlook Express, but
should also work under Windows Mail if you also follow the
additional instructions for Windows Mail tacked on to the end.

Are messages piling up in your Outbox? If so, can you move all
these messages to the Drafts folder or delete them? If any refuse
to do either, let us know.

Thank you for your response. I have actually done this via the Wizard
exactly as they instructed and the only thing I had not originally done was
check the 'outgoing requires authentication box'. I'm still not able to
send. Do I need to reboot or turn off my anti virus??

Thank you. I will try that. In the meantime I realized something. While my
e-mail account is still through Bellsouth.net and I am still paying for their
service, I am using Verizon Wireless Broadband (VZAccess Manager) to connect
to the Internet now. I am wondering if this could potentially be my problem.
I'm not a technical guru or anything, but maybe the two are not compatible??

Yes, this is why I asked to see the error message.
For port 25 SMTP you can only use the mail server belonging to the
connection provider.

Here is the error message I receive:

The connection to the server has failed. Subject '', Account:

Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Is there anything I can do about this or will I just not be able to use MS
Mail with a Bellsouth e-mail account via Verizon Wireless Broadband.

There are 4 possible workarounds:
1. Use webmail for sending: http://webmail.att.net
2. Use a port other than '25' for SMTP, if BellSouth has a provision for that.
3. Ask Verizon Wireless if they have an SMTP server you can use.
4. Get a free Gmail account, configure it for POP access, and
use it for your sending chores. Gmail uses port 465 for SMTP.
