| | Windows Mail Executable Stays Loaded When Program Is Closed The executable stays loaded as a process. That process has to be manually dumped before the program can be restarted. Is there a fix for this problem? Thanks. |

| | Re: Windows Mail Executable Stays Loaded When Program Is Closed Trend Micro PC-cillin, as well as antivirus programs from Norton and McAfee, have repeatedly caused problems for Windows Mail users. As a test, uninstall your antivirus, reboot, then try Windows Mail again. If this cures the problem, we can recommend a free antivirus program that is more compatible. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (WLMail) "Ed" <Ed@xxxxxx> wrote in message news 43B3791-8268-40F9-8425-72EBF7541DBB@xxxxxxQuote: > I'm using Trend Micro PC-cillin 2008. > > "Gary VanderMolen" wrote: > Quote: >> This problem can be caused by a non-compatible antivirus program. >> Which antivirus are you running? >> >> -- >> Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (WLMail) >> >> >> "Ed" <Ed@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:B542AFDB-18F3-4C97-ACD4-CD1401C991A3@xxxxxx Quote: >> > The executable stays loaded as a process. | | Re: Windows Mail Executable Stays Loaded When Program Is Closed Also check that you don't have any of the mail gadgets on the sidebar. They will keep the process open, as well as some AV apps, apparently. steve "Ed" <Ed@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:B542AFDB-18F3-4C97-ACD4-CD1401C991A3@xxxxxx Quote: > The executable stays loaded as a process. | | Re: Windows Mail Executable Stays Loaded When Program Is Closed What AV program do you recommend? I do have an out-of-the-ordinary setup: I use Outlook 2007 to retrieve my email while my wife was using OE, and now Windows Mail. I may have to switch Outlook to another AV program. I cannot find any settings in Trend to disable checking one account. | | Re: Windows Mail Executable Stays Loaded When Program Is Closed Of the free antivirus programs, Avast and AVG are most compatible. AVG free edition: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/us/frt/0?prd=aff Avast free edition: http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html With either of those, during the install phase you must select custom install, and then deselect the email scanning option. Of the paid ones, I like CA Antivirus, which I've used without any problem for the past 13 months: http://shop.ca.com/virus/antivirus.aspx -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (WLMail) "Ed" <Ed@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:CE56340D-72C8-4EC1-A37F-E56BB6A1B198@xxxxxx Quote: > What AV program do you recommend? | | Re: Windows Mail Executable Stays Loaded When Program Is Closed What antivirus suits you best basically depends on your own preferences. I like NOD32, but many people prefer Kaspersky or something else to it. This might sound silly to many people, but I do honestly believe that each computer is different and has its own personal "feel". Check out my reviews on http://avscan.blogspot.com and decide for yourself. I've practically used all the major brands, and have jotted down my experiences. Cheers. ---- tashfeen http://avscan.blogspot.com http://techqi.blogspot.com On Apr 20, 11:19 am, Ed <E...@xxxxxx> wrote: Quote: > What AV program do you recommend?
