Send and Receive Window in Windows Mail

The send and receive window does not close after sending mail messages or
checking for new mail. Anyone have any experience with this problem

There's a blue pin at the lower right corner of the send and receive window
with two possible settings, one of which makes the window stay on the
screen.
If clicking on it isn;t enough, click on Hide.
