Save password setting not retained

Hi,

Windows mail has been working properly for me until yesterday. But now it
keeps asking me for the username and password when I try to recieve e-mails,
and it doesn't help to mark the box "remember my password". I use the correct
password because it does work, but I can't be arsed to fill in my details
every time..

Grateful for your help!

Windows Mail has a quirk that often makes it forget your password if you
click Apply just after putting the checkmark in the box before Remember
my password. Click in Tools, then Accounts, then your email account,
then Properties, then Servers. Click at the end of the dots for your
password, backspace over them, then type yout password, then click
Apply. It may then ask you to type the password again. After you do
this, click on OK, then Close.

Re: Save password setting not retained

Erik,
I have the same issue. Mail works, but asks me for the password every time.

Robert,
Tried the sequence you suggest, doesn't help. BTW, I don't get the dialog
box asking me to confirm the password.

Re: Save password setting not retained

Password corruption is often caused by a non-compatible antivirus.
Which antivirus are you running?

Re: Save password setting not retained

Windows Mail is not compatible with most Norton and
McAfee antivirus programs. Those will need to be
uninstalled, NOT just disabled.

After uninstalling your non-compatible antivirus, download
and install a more compatible antivirus like:
AVG free edition:
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/us/frt/0?prd=aff
or
Avast free edition:
http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

With either of those, during the install phase you must select custom
install, and then deselect the email scanning option.

Your other option is to upgrade to Windows Live Mail, which is
less prone to corruption from aggressive antivirus programs.
Even then, email scanning must be disabled.
