Another one with problems sending email through Windows Mail/Yahoo

Used to work fine but haven't used it to send emails (receive yes but send
no) for a few months. Downloaded the update 941090 but that hasn't fixed it.
Getting these error messages.

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Subject 'Got yahoo to work', Account: 'Yahoo', Server:
'smtp.mail.yahoo.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 465, Secure(SSL): No, Socket
Error: 10053, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

Account: 'Yahoo', Server: 'pop.mail.yahoo.com', Protocol: POP3, Server
Response: '-ERR popgate unknown command', Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Server
Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC18

Ticks in boxes for SSL on incoming and outgoing. Any ideas how I can get
yahoo mail working again? ISP provider in Sky. I saw a link for an update
for emails through Sky but the link was not working.

Just downloading it doesn't do much. You have to install it before it will
do
much. Also, if it refuses to install, you may have guessed wrong on whether
you need the 32-bit version or the 64-bit version, so also download the
other version and try to install it. If both refuse to install, you can
also get
it as part of the Vista SP1 update, but that takes hours longer to install.

After one of them has installed, reboot, then start Windows Mail, and send
yourself a short message to test the result.

Yes, I had installed update 941090. But have now installed SP1 as well.

I am now being prompted by Windows Security to verify user name and password
for my mail server - Yahoo. Despite entering the details, the same screen
repeatedly appears until I cancel the sending. Changing the ticks in
Tools/Accounts only varies the error messages from both to just the second of
those listed before.

Some email providers require you to enter your username with no spaces and
no
CAPITAL LETTERS. Some require you to follow it with the part of your email
address starting with @, and some require you to leave this off. Many
require
you to use CAPITAL and lowercase letters in the correct places in your
password. Many email providers are rather poor about telling users about
changes
in these rules. Error messages about such problems are often unclear on
exactly
what the problem was.

If a Norton antivirus program is causing the problem, just turning off part
or
all of the program seldom helps. You usually have to uninstall it instead.

Re: Another one with problems sending email through Windows Mail/Yahoo

Regarding the second error message, that one is often caused by a
wrong setting for incoming authentication.
Go to Tools, Accounts, select that account, Properties, Servers,
uncheck "Log on using Secure Password Authentication."

Also, both errors can be caused by your antivirus program. Which
antivirus are you using?
