| | "bouncing" a sender Is there a way that I am able to block a particular sender so that the e-mail that they send comes back as "bounced" or unread? Thank you for your help! -- L.A. |

Thank you for your help! The problem with doing what you want is that most "Spammers" will either use a totally fake address or use a real one that belongs to someone else. Either your bounced message will go nowhere or it will go to the wrong person, usually someone totally innocent. Also, spammers will change their sender address all the time making it difficult for a "Rule" you set to stick. Don't post your real email address in newsgroups (Mine is real but I run my own mail server so it does not matter) and I get thousands of junk mails every month, something like half a million a year, and it is all due to the fact that spammers "Harvest" email addresses from newsgroups like this. Also, when people "Forward" emails without editing then it is possible for a machine infected with a virus to get a big list of addresses. If you send a joke to 20 friends and one of them simply "Forwards" that to an infected machine all of the email addresses of all the people you sent it to (and they sent it to) can be extracted and used. My other email addresses that I use for business do not have a problem - but once you get on a spammer's list you will end up on all of them. |

| | Re: "bouncing" a sender Actually it was for a guy I would rather not hear from again. I know about how I can put him on the list where he's not even downloaded from my server, but I kind of would like him to know that I'm not going to even accept his e-mails anymore. If I put him on the list that doesn't download it from my server, it never sends anything back to him letting him know that it wasn't read. I just wasn't sure if there was a sure-fire way to do this. All my garbage e-mail goes into junk or I remove the domain name. -- L.A. | | Re: "bouncing" a sender Hi SMS...hope I haven't taken too long to respond. It's quite easy actually, however as far as I can figure, you can only do it to one e-mail at a time...I would love to be able to apply to MANY spams....here we go: click directly on the e-mail you want deleted from the server go to "tools" up in your bar click "message rules" there will be 1. and 2....at that point you just specify how you want the returning e-mail from this sender handled. i.e. 1 would be mark off "where the line contains people", then 2 would be "delete from server"..(you may have to scroll down in the 2 box to find it), then you can name your rule..."delete from server..rule", and hit ok. It's just as easy to delete if you want to eliminate the rule. I hope this helps. The problem for me is that if that particular person doesn't get a "bounced back" message..they keep e-mailing and it goes into cyberspace...so then they get mad thinking I am getting their e-s and deliberately not responding...a bit different than a bounced back message where they know I'm not getting them. Sigh...I'll get it figured out. I thought Vista with all it's bells and whistles would have something so creative...maybe on the next drawing board. xo :-) -- L.A. | | Re: "bouncing" a sender You're welcome. Once you get Windows Live Mail installed, go to Tools, Safety Options, Blocked Senders, and enable "Bounce blocked messages back to sender". Be judicious about using this option. I recommend putting only that one undesired sender on the Blocked Senders list. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP "L.A." <LA@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:F0B42723-F274-4B87-9CFA-173FA38643D5@xxxxxx Quote: > Mr. VanderMolen....Thank you SO much for that post!
