| | Box requesting user name & password My wife has done something to the windows mail and every time I try to get my new e-mails a box appears asking for my user name and password. I've tried using the check box to remember my details but this doesn't help as the next time I try to download messages the box appears again. Can anyone help me to get rid of this security box? |

Mail has a quirk that often makes it forget the password. If it's at least remembering the checkmark, go back to that page. If there's any error in the username, click at the end of it, backspace to erase it, then enter the correct username. Do the same for the password, except assume that it needs correction. This time, you can click Apply after making these changes since you didn't change the checkmark. |

| | Re: Box requesting user name & password I have the same problem, suddenly, the box requesting user name and password just keeps looping and I can't get away from it. I have gone to TOOLS and then to OPTIONS and then removed the e-mail and completely re-entered it but I am still stuck in the loop. Why does this happen again and again? I also did not encounter a box to APPLY. | | Re: Box requesting user name & password If by "removed the e-mail" you meant you removed that mail account, that is not done by going to Tools, Options. It can only be done by going to Tools, Accounts. So, it is not clear what you did. Which antivirus program are you running? Some of them are not compatible with Windows Mail. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP "cowman" <cowman@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:0BDCC7BB-9A36-43FD-A371-784824BC1FA2@xxxxxx Quote: >I have the same problem, suddenly, the box requesting user name and password > just keeps looping and I can't get away from it. | | Re: Box requesting user name & password Tools, then Options doesn't seem to be the correct way to get to that window. Try Tools, then Accounts, then your email account, then Properties, then Servers. Apply should be in the lower right corner of that window, but not available until you've changed something. Also, some email servers insist that you enter your username with no spaces and no CAPITAL LETTERS. Some insist that you follow it with the part of your email address starting with @, and some insist that you don't. Many insist that you use CAPITAL and lowercase letters in the correct places in your password. Many give rather unclear error messages about which of these they object to if you don't follow their rules.
